What is THCA Flower?

Our THCa flower is hemp flower organically and sustainably grown in Oregon, which features high THCa while still staying under the federal THC compliance limits. Which means it's legally allowed to be shipped across the US. All of our THCa flower is tested for both potency and for compliance with available Certificates of Analysis (COA) available.

What's The Difference Between THCa and THC:

While both compounds are chemically similar, there are a few differences which are important to understand. THCa is the precursor compound to THC, and does not cause any high or intoxication on its own. THC is the psycoactive compound which causes a high. Once THCa is heated (smoked or vaped) it is turned into THC, but legally THCa is legal at point of sale..

Benefits and Effects of THCa Flower

The effects of THCa flower and CBD flower can go past just getting high and have many non-psychoactive effects as well. Many users report feeling energized, a mental boost and a euphoric lift, especially from sativa strains. Along with this, you might feel deep relaxation effects and a sense of calm from indica strains, as well as appetite stimulation from both types of strains.

That being said, effects will depend on the user, the THCa content of the strain, the type of strain, and the individual cannabinoids in the strain.

THCa Flower vs CBD Flower vs Hemp Flower

Both THCa and CBD are derived from hemp, which is the raw plant in the botanical class of cannabis, but they are quite different in terms of effects.

THCa: Potent, and will intoxicate you when consuming. THCa is a precursor to THC, so when THCa is heated (decarboxylation) it will then convert into THC which will give you effects like "traditional cannabis" which you would find at a dispensary. There is some confusion about all this, but THCa will convert to THC when smoked or when vaping, and provides psychoactive effects unlike CBD flower.

CBD: Non-psychoactive and is more focused on the therapeutic and medicinal benefits without the high.

That being said, many strains and products can contain a combination of THCa and CBD.

How to Choose the Best THCa Flower - Safety, Potency and Healthy Bud

Choosing high quality flower involves considering a few factors to ensure you're getting the best THCa flower available that has healthy effects and more importantly is safe!

Ensure Lab Tests Are Available

You should always ensure that there are 3rd party lab test available before purchasing, this ensures that there aren't a contaminants such as heavy metals or dangerous pesticides in the flower. Along with this, it will provide you with a detailed report of the cannabinoids and terpenes which will give you more insight on the effects. These tests will provide you with THCa content, and THCa converts to THC at a general ratio of around 87.7%, so 10% THCa would convert to 8.77% THC when smoked, some people use this as a measure of "high levels".

Regulation requires 3rd party testing, but it doesn't always happen. Lucky Elk always provides 3rd party testing to ensure high-quality flower for our users.

Consider Flower Appearance and Aroma

Although it obviously doesn't matter as much for products such as gummies, when you're evaluating THCa flower, the flower should have some vibrant color and dense size and shape. Size and shape will vary depending on strain as as well as where it's grown, such as indoor-grown strains vs outdoor, as well as if it's hand-trimmed or using an automatic machine.

Any flower that looks graying and lacks color should be skipped.

If you're able to handle the flower in person, try to evaluate the aroma, if it has a full smell that's usually a good sign, and the actual smell can vary depending on the terpene profile.

How to Store Your THCa Flower:

To help maintain potency and freshness of your flower, you'll want to ensure you're storing it correctly.

  • Store in airtight and UV resistant glass containers such as mason jars and ensure it's away from sunlight.
  • Keep in a cool and dark place around room temperature (60-70 degree Fahrenheit.)
  • Utilize humidity packs for long term storage to ensure the flower doesn't dry out.
  • Proper storage will increase the shelf life of your products and sure enhanced flavor and potency.
