In hashmaking, micron refers to the size of the filtration screen used to separate trichomes—the resin glands of the cannabis plant—from the rest of the material during ice water extraction. Micron size doesn’t automatically determine quality—but it does help shape the character of the final hash.
Bubble hash ratings are an informal system used by solventless hash makers and consumers to describe how refined and clean a resin is when heated. As a general rule, higher-rated hash contains purer trichome heads with less contaminating plant material, waxes, and residual debris.
Pure trichome heads that liquefy clean when dabbed, leaving little to no residue. Often sourced from select micron ranges (e.g., 73–159µ) and multiple washes. Connoisseur grade—best by dab.
